Celebrate Colorectal Cancer Awareness with Navicent Health This Month

The community is invited to join Navicent Health in recognizing March as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, of cancers that affect both men and women, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related death in the U.S. and the third most common cancer among men and women. Incidence rates are particularly high among African-Americans, and the disease is very prevalent in the Southeast.
In order to educate the community about risk factors, symptoms and preventative measures, Navicent Health will host the following events:
· Friday, March 4 – Mayoral Proclamation
o 11:00 a.m.
o Government Center (700 Poplar Street, Macon)
o Macon-Bibb County Mayor Robert A.B. Reichert will proclaim March Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in Macon-Bibb County.
· Tuesday, March 24 – Colorectal Cancer Awareness Seminar
o 6:30 p.m.
o Peyton Anderson Cancer Center, Navicent Health (800 First Street, Macon)
o Learn more about colorectal cancer, available screening methods and treatment options.
o This educational seminar will feature Drew Honaker, MD and Adam Levy, MD.

Screening tests can find precancerous polyps that can be removed before they turn into cancer. Screenings can also detect colorectal cancer early, when treatment is most effective. Routine screenings are available through a person’s primary care provider and at the Peyton Anderson Cancer Center, Navicent Health throughout the year.
