GDOL to Help Job Seekers in Middle Georgia Prepare Resumes and Develop Careers

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Monday, February 8th, 2016

The Georgia Department of Labor will offer free professional employment-related services to residents of the Middle Georgia area on Wednesday, Feb. 10, in Gray.

A job readiness event, designed to help people find jobs and start new careers, especially in manufacturing and logistics, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce located at 161 West Clinton St. in Gray near Macon.

The event is sponsored by the GDOL, Central Georgia Technical College, Jones County Keeping Up with Business and Jones County High School.

The event will consist of hands-on workshops on how to search for jobs, write and critique resumes, develop interviewing skills, and how to network with employers, especially those in manufacturing and logistics.

Representatives will be on site to discuss several employment-related programs, including on-the-job training, U.S. Trade Adjustment Assistance and apprenticeships.

OJT allows participants to “earn and learn” while developing occupational skills and earning a paycheck. TAA is a federal program that assists U.S. workers who have lost or may lose their jobs as a result of foreign trade.

Apprenticeship programs offer participants a salary while learning the skills necessary to succeed in high-demand careers. In addition to paychecks and a potential career, other benefits include hands-on-career training, formal education and national industry certification.

Participants are encouraged to bring resume, work history, educational background and a list of job skills to the event.
