Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Central Georgia Technical College and Middle Georgia State University recently entered into additional articulation agreements allowing students to move seamlessly from the technical college to the state university without loss of credit. These agreements allow graduates from CGTC’s Business Administrative Technology or Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism Management associate degree programs to transfer up to 55 semester credit hours to MGA’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Management.
With the recent additions, CGTC and MGA now have articulation agreements in 4 program areas including Computer Information Systems, Criminal Justice, BAT, and HRTM. This is supplemental to a system-wide agreement for the transfer of up to 27 general education core courses between the Technical College System of Georgia and University System of Georgia institutions.
Sabrina Swann, dean of Business and Computer Technologies for CGTC, spearheaded the establishment of these latest agreements for CGTC. She worked closely with Charlie Aiken, assistant professor of Marketing and director of the BAS degree program for MGA. The two spent a year gathering all the necessary information needed to put the agreement into motion and gained input from program faculty.
Swann praised the efforts of all involved in developing collaborative agreement. “Ultimately, these agreements are about providing additional opportunities for our students to continue their education toward a four-year degree without significant loss of credit,” she said. “The BAS is a good fit for our graduates; it allows them to continue their education with the goal of moving into a management or supervisory position during their career.”
The Bachelor of Applied Science program is new at MGA and is designed specifically for professionals in technical careers.
Under the agreements:
· The joint agreement will be open to CGTC graduates with a completed Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in BAT or HRTM with a minimum 2.5 GPA or 2.0 GPA with at least 2 years of relevant full-time experience; and only for candidates entering the BAS degree in Business Management at MGA.
· Effective December 1, 2015, MGA will accept general education courses for transfer as detailed in the articulation agreement between the University System of Georgia and CGTC.
· This agreement is effective for students who have graduated with the AAS in BAT or HRTM since Fall 1995.
