Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO
Thursday, November 12th, 2015
Six major employers from the logistics and manufacturing industries will begin hiring to fill more than 1,000 jobs at the Middle Georgia Recruitment and Job Readiness Event Friday, Nov. 13, in Macon. The participating employers are Aspen, BlueBird, Frito-Lay, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Kumho and Mohawk.
The event will be held from 1-5 p.m. in the Professional Sciences Conference Center at Middle Georgia State University located at 100 University Parkway. It provides an excellent opportunity for job seekers with skills in the manufacturing and logistics industries to be hired by these employers.
The event is co-sponsored by the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Workforce Division, Georgia Department of Labor, Middle Georgia Consortium, Inc. and Middle Georgia Regional Commission.
Orientation sessions will begin at 1 p.m. and repeat every 30 minutes.
Jobseekers attending the event are urged to participate in two 45-minute job readiness workshops on resume writing and job interviewing prior to talking with employers. While attendees are not required to attend a job readiness session, the sponsors are providing the workshops to help jobseekers make a more favorable impression when talking with potential employers.
Job seekers will be able to develop and print resumes and have them reviewed by experts. Job seekers bringing their own resumes to the event may also have them reviewed by the experts before they meet with employers.
Information will be available about on-the-job training, the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance program and various apprenticeship programs.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in business casual attire, and to bring a pen or pencil and paper. For more information about the event, or employers wanting to participate, email [email protected].
