Birch Communications, Inc., a leading nationwide provider of communications, network and cloud services to small, mid-sized, enterprise and wholesale businesses, sponsored and participated in the Macon Charter Academy's Community Wall Mural Project in Macon, Georgia this past weekend to pay tribute to education through a community-building initiative.
Birch was one of several organizations to participate in the mural project, which culminated in painting the retaining wall surrounding the Macon Charter Academy's newly built playground. The vast wall mural, which served as a blank canvas for the art, is approximately 300 feet long and 3 feet high. Each organization was provided a canvas 5 feet wide on which to bring their design to life.
Birch's mural features a modern rendering of a 'technology tree' at the center of the design complete with a pipeline of educational resources throughout to symbolize the role of education as a fundamental vehicle for the growth and development of the individual.
Birch served as a technology consultant during the construction of the school and has donated startup funding, computer equipment and furniture to this worthy cause. In addition, Birch has outfitted the school with Metro-Fiber connectivity, TotalCloud PBX service and TotalCloud Data Center service. Vincent M. Oddo, Birch president and CEO, had also been a founding member of the MCA Board and worked extensively on securing the MCA facility where the school currently stands.
"We're elated to have Birch sponsor this creative project that benefits our students, our school/academy and the community," said Charles Rutland, Founder, Macon Charter Academy. "Mr. Oddo has been phenomenal as a founding board member of the school; I cannot thank him enough for his contribution. The authenticity of the mural stems from the full-fledged spectrum of community involvement that came together to create it," said Rutland. "We saw a clean slate with which to create something meaningful."
The Community Wall Mural Project took place Saturday, October 17, 2015, at MCA. Mural painting activities were held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. followed by a luncheon cosponsored by Birch. The academy plans to host ongoing mural painting projects until the length of the mural is filled with artwork from school sponsors like Birch, as well as students and affiliates of the academy.
