Bibb County School District to Celebrate Consolidation of Ballard-Hudson, Bloomfield Middle Schools
Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO
Tuesday, October 20th, 2015
The media and community are invited to join the Bibb County School District on Tuesday, October 20, at 9 a.m. as it celebrates the consolidation of Ballard-Hudson Middle School and Bloomfield Middle School at Ballard-Hudson. Ballard-Hudson Middle School is located at 1070 Anthony Road in Macon. Principal Eclan David will lead the celebration.
Additionally, video and audio enhancements have been added to each classroom at Ballard-Hudson Middle as part of a pilot program for security enhancements throughout the District. Ballard-Hudson and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School will be the first two schools in the District with the complete audio and video system, allowing teachers to record video of their classrooms at any time. The audio and video enhancements will be added to all schools throughout the District under the 2015 ESPLOST (Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) if passed by voters in a special election on November 3, 2015. Guests are encouraged to remain after the consolidation celebration to watch a demonstration of the new audio and video capabilities.
Bloomfield Middle School was renovated and converted to Southfield Elementary School during the summer with funding provided by the 2010 ESPLOST. The building opened on August 1, 2015, as Southfield Elementary for former students of Burghard Elementary and Rice Elementary, which both closed at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. Students from the former Bloomfield Middle School consolidated with students at Ballard-Hudson Middle School as part of the process.
