The 16th edition of the Susan G. Komen Central Georgia Race For The Cure will make its return to Macon on Saturday. The annual 5k run-walk event also makes its debut at Mercer University, with a 3.1 mile course through the campus and Macon’s historic intown neighborhoods. Hundreds of runners and walkers, as well as more than 150 breast cancer survivors, are expected to participate in the race.
The race begins at 9 a.m. with onsite registration from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. with race registration costs of $40 for a chip-timed run and $35 for an untimed registration.
The event staging area and start/finish zone are located in the parking lot between the Hilton Garden Inn and the Stadium Drive entrance to Mercer off of Mercer University Drive.
The event raises funds to support local breast cancer initiatives such as free mammograms and educational programs in the organization’s eight county service area, as well as breast cancer research. Through the past 16 years, Susan G. Komen Central Georgia has raised more than $2.3 million to support local women in their fight against breast cancer as well as for cancer research.
The event is supported by numerous sponsors who are committed to Susan G. Komen’s goal of ending breast cancer forever. The event would not be possible without the generous support of presenting sponsors: Kroger, 13WMAZ, Z93.7, and New Country 96.5.
