The Coliseum Cancer Institute together with the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance will host the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Masquerade to increase awareness of ovarian cancer in Middle Georgia.  The masquerade will be held on Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Armory Ballroom in Downtown Macon (484 1st Street, Macon).  Jazz music will set the tone for this fun-filled evening that will include a casino, bourbon tasting, and raffles.  Tickets to the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Masquerade are $25 and can be purchased at the Coliseum Cancer Center (330 Hospital Drive, Building C, Suite 120 Macon GA) or by visiting www.masquerademacon.com.  Free admission will be given to all ovarian cancer survivors.
 
Ovarian cancer is often referred to as the cancer that hides. The symptoms of ovarian cancer – digestive issues, excessive fatigue, excessive bleeding, changes in bowel and bladder problems, and pain during intercourse – often mask themselves as other health issues, leading to a misinterpretation of what may be the true problem.  By the time ovarian cancer is often discovered, it has already spread beyond the ovaries, making it the deadliest gynecologic cancer.  Early recognition of the symptoms of ovarian cancer is the best way to save women’s lives.  If caught early, ovarian cancer is highly treatable.
