Macon Film Festival Kicks Off Thursday, Free Admission for Students

The tenth annual Macon Film Festival starts Thursday, July 16, and continues through Sunday, July 19, with screenings, workshops, and legendary after parties. Tickets are $10 for one-block screenings, $25 for one-day passes; $75 for Screening passes, valid all four days; and $150 for All-Access passes that include admission to all screenings, VIP Lounge access and after parties. Purchase tickets or preview the festival schedule at festival headquarters located at 567 Cherry Street or at MaconFilmFestival.com.
Students 18 & under and college students with valid I.D. get free admission. They can pick up free tickets at Festival Headquarters. Limit one ticket per student. Student tickets do not guarantee admission to special screenings and do not include admission to after parties, which are limited to All-Access pass holders age 21 & up.
The Opening Night special screening on Thursday, July 16, is the documentary MAVIS! Directed by Jessica Edwards, the film is about Mavis Staple of the Staple Singers, who inspired millions and helped propel the civil rights movement with their music. 8pm. The Douglass Theatre.
Friday, July 17, special guest Burt Reynolds will present DELIVERANCE. The Southern thriller, directed by John Boorman, was filmed in Georgia in 1972. Reynolds will participate in Q&A following the screening. 8pm. The Douglass Theatre.
Saturday, July 18, is SLOW WEST, directed by John Maclean. The film, starring Michael Fassbender, Ben Mendelsohn, and Kodi Smit-McPhee, was the Winner of the Grand Jury Prize World Dramatic Competition at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. 7:45pm. The Douglass Theatre.
The closing night Special Screening on Sunday, July 19, is SHARKY’S MACHINE, directed by and starring Burt Reynolds and Rachel Ward. The 1981 cop drama was filmed in Atlanta, Georgia. Reynolds will be available for a Q&A following the screening. 5pm. The Douglass Theatre.
This year’s media room will be located at Turnerboone, located at 484 Cherry Street. Media will be able to interview visiting filmmakers in this location Thursday – Sunday. Thursday: 10a to 5p; Friday:10a to 5p; Saturday: 11a to 5p; Sunday: 12p to 2p.
There will be a happy hour each day from 5 to 6pm in the VIP/Filmmaker Lounge for filmmakers and All-Access pass holders. VIP / Filmmaker Lounge is located at 551 Cherry Street.
Burt Reynolds will hold a press conference for all media on Sunday, July 19 at 5pm in the Douglass Theatre Annex, 355 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. All media is invited to attend.
Macon Film Festival was named one of the Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the world by Moviemaker Magazine. The four-day festival includes screenings independent films that you can’t see in any other theatres, including short and long format narratives (like you see at regular movie theatres) and documentaries. Screenings are held at three venues located within three blocks in downtown Macon: Cox Capitol Theatre, the Douglass Theatre and The 567 Center. Filmmaking workshops, networking events and legendary after parties combine to make this an event that draws audiences and artists from around the globe.
