Over 150 friends, family members and school teachers and administrators joined Cox Communications in honoring 28 very special children during the Cox Inspirational Student Hero Awards that took place on Wednesday, May 6, at Mercer University.  Cox recognized students from across Bibb County who have demonstrated extraordinary accomplishments at school, at home and in their communities, despite facing many challenges on a daily basis. Whether the student has lost a parent, been born with a disability, or has fought a serious medical issue, they have served as an inspiration for others in their school.

The students were chosen by a committee of leaders at their school.  During the event, Cox presented each student with an engraved medallion and certificate of honor from Cox.

“These students have shown an enduring perseverance, inner strength and courage of character to rise above significant challenges and bring encouragement to others,” stated Jacqui Vines, senior vice president and region manager of Cox Southeast.  “It is my honor to pay tribute to these student heroes. They truly are an inspiration to us all.”

“I would like to thank Cox Communications for recognizing the Bibb County School District Inspirational Heroes,” said Dr. Kelley Castlin-Gacutan, chief of operations for the Bibb County School District.  “We have 28 students, from kindergarten through grade 12, who have demonstrated such courage and resilience in overcoming obstacles that could have caused them to lose focus or fall behind in school.  The teachers, school administrators, support staff, community partners and parents are to be commended for the role that each has played in helping our students achieve academic success.  It is their commitment and support that will continue to help all Bibb County Students reach their highest potential.”
