Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 902, made a gift of $1,000 for scholarships to the Central Georgia Technical College Foundation recently. CGTC Instructor Brian Schmidt, who passed away in February after a short battle with cancer, recommended the local VVA create the scholarship. Schmidt was a long-time Electronics instructor who had himself established a scholarship with the CGTC Foundation in memory of his late wife.
The Logan Walton Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to veterans attending CGTC. Named for the Vietnam veteran, Logan Walton was awarded numerous decorations for gallantry. After settling in Warner Robins, he was a founding member of Veterans of America Chapter 902. Upon his death, attributed to factors arising from the use of Agent Orange during his tours in Vietnam, the members of Chapter 902 decided to honor his memory by establishing the scholarship.
