Piedmont Secures Construction of Mercer Pedestrian Bridge

Piedmont Construction Group won 8-0 approval from Macon-Bibb County commissioners Tuesday to manage construction of a new pedestrian bridge over Mercer University Drive.
Commissioner Al Tillman was absent for the vote that authorized a contract of up to $2.8 million for the project, which will link Mercer with planned student housing, a hotel and restaurant space.
The development is scheduled for completion in summer 2016. Macon-Bibb is contributing $2.2 million in bond funds to the bridge project.
