Navicent Health Receives Third Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence

Press release from the issuing company

Wednesday, March 18th, 2015

On Wednesday, March 11 the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition Program announced that Navicent Health has once again achieved Magnet redesignation. NH joins an elite group of hospitals as one of only 130 worldwide to achieve its third designation. The Magnet Recognition Program recognizes hospitals for nursing excellence.

“It takes a complete team effort to achieve Magnet designation, especially for the third time as the standards are raised to increase a higher level of nursing performance. Achieving Magnet redesignation is truly a continuous journey to improve clinical outcomes and the quality of care our nurses provide. We are thrilled to receive redesignation after our nurses have worked so enthusiastically for this achievement,” said Tracey Blalock, Chief Nursing Officer for NH.

In order to receive redesignation, NH submitted over 2,000 pages of material documenting its compliance with ANCC’s comprehensive standards. The submission was followed by a site visit in February 2015, when four Magnet appraisers toured for three days to appraise the health system and thoroughly examine each department that provides nursing care. The representatives spoke with almost 1,000 nurses, physicians, patients and members of the community at large about NH’s nursing care.

Of 409 Magnet hospitals and health systems worldwide, NH is one of only 130 to earn designation three times. Magnet status recognizes an organization’s commitment to excellence in nursing leadership, professional development, community impact, professional practice, quality patient care and innovation.

“Our nursing staff has toiled diligently in order to achieve this recognition. They collectively chose to apply for redesignation, and in so doing, set a higher standard for themselves. I am thrilled that Magnet has recognized what our patients and their loved ones recognize each day – the higher standard of care that our nurses continuously provide. Our nurses at Navicent Health are an inspiration to others and set the standard for excellence in nursing,” said Dr. Ninfa M. Saunders, President and CEO of NH.

According to the ANCC, the leading nurses credentialing organization in the United States, Magnet achievement is widely accepted as the highest recognition of nursing excellence. Those who receive Magnet designation must maintain rigorous standards for four years. To reapply for and receive Magnet status for an additional four years is confirmation of NH’s resolve to deliver the highest level of care in nursing. NH received its initial Magnet designation in 2005 and is the only Magnet designated hospital in central Georgia. NH’s nurses are committed to continuously raising their standards in order to receive future redesignations. For more information on the Magnet program, please visit www.nursecredentialing.org/Magnet.
