Coliseum Cancer Institute to Host Free Colon Cancer Awareness Events
Press release from the issuing company
Tuesday, March 10th, 2015
The Coliseum Cancer Institute of Coliseum Medical Centers will be hosting two free lunch & learn events during the month of March in order to raise awareness and education of colon cancer and to promote the importance of prevention, early detection and treatment. These events coincide with National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place each year during the month of March.
Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide, as well as the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women in the United States. It is estimated that around 137,000 people will be diagnosed with the disease in 2015, and approximately 50,000 will die as a result. Routine testing starting at age 50 can actually prevent many cases of colon cancer or find it at an early stage when it is highly treatable. Because many people are not getting tested, only about 4 out of 10 are diagnosed early enough to have successful treatment. That’s why education about colon cancer prevention and screening is so important.
If you’re 50 or older, talk to your physician about the type and frequency of colorectal cancer screening that is right for you. For more information about screenings, for a referral to a qualified physician, or to make reservations for the lunch & learn events, call our free Consult-A-Nurse line at (478) 746-4646.
