Wednesday, February 25th, 2015
Macon Charter Academy, Bibb County’s only locally-approved International Baccalaureate charter school, will be having a ground breaking ceremony Friday, February 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM. The location will be 151 Madison Street, between Walnut Street and Riverside Drive. Mayor Robert Reichert, Bibb County School Board members, Bibb County Commissioners, representatives from Macon Charter Academy and Highmark, project developer, will be on hand.
Macon Charter Academy will house 900 Bibb County students at their location in Pleasant Hill. According to Dr. Greg George, a professor at Middle Georgia State College, this building project will have an economic impact on the Pleasant Hill neighborhood of more than 40 million dollars over the next five years.
Students who graduate from Macon Charter Academy will feed into Central High School’s IB program, currently the only program of its kind in Middle Georgia. Mayna Rutland, one of Macon Charter Academy’s founding board members, calls the partnership a win for the Middle Georgia educational community.
“This partnership shows that charter schools and traditional public schools can collaborate to ensure the best educational opportunities for our children,” she said.
