Press release from the issuing company
Monday, January 5th, 2015
As 2014 comes to an end, Cox Communications celebrates a milestone in service to Middle Georgia, 50 years of leadership and innovation in telecommunications. While Cox’s products and services have significantly evolved, its customers continue to enjoy the same service-minded approach to business made popular by Cox Communications founder Governor James M. Cox.
“We’re honored to be the leader in Middle Georgia’s telecommunications needs for the past 50 years,” said Lynn Murphey, Cox’s Middle Georgia market leader. “With new innovative technology launches such as Contour and gigabit Internet speeds, and more exciting products coming in 2015, Cox looks forward to proving Middle Georgia with outstanding services for many years to come.”
In 1964, Cox Broadcasting Corporation, later Cox Communications, purchased Macon Cable TV and Robins Telecable. In 1984 the two systems were merged and renamed Cox Communications. Thirteen years later, Cox became the first cable system in the nation to deliver high-speed internet access, local and long-distance switched telephone service and digital video to customers over one network – from one company. Fast forward to 2014, Cox is now the third-largest cable TV company in the United States, serving approximately 6 million customers.
