The Leadership Macon Class of 2014 will hold a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Ingram-Pye Elementary School Playground and Garden Complex on Wednesday, December 10 at 9:30 AM.
The Leadership Macon Class developed this project when it learned that the students at the school had no access to playground equipment. They also found the opportunity for additional improvement that would enhance and improve the quality of life and educational experience of the school’s students by building a school and community garden, thanks to their partnership with United Way of Central Georgia. “It gives great joy to bring a gift like this to the students and families of Ingram-Pye Elementary School,” stated Betsy Fitzgerald, member of the Leadership Macon Class of 2014. “Leadership Macon looks forward to continuing its relationship with Ingram-Pye, ensuring that both students and community members are able to enjoy the playground and garden for years to come.”
The playground and garden project is supported by the generosity of numerous businesses and individuals who have donated over $60,000 in addition to in-kind donations and volunteer hours. Major contributors include GE Capital, Macon-Bibb, and Perdue. Students from Mercer University’s Tift School of Education also played a role in developing the playground in addition to working numerous hours with students as student teachers, mentors and tutors. United Way of Central Georgia is serving as a collaborative partner for this Leadership Macon project.
