Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health (CHNH) will celebrate the recovery and spirit of one of its patients, Taylor Saunders, prior to his discharge from CHNH. Taylor – a five year old from Albany, Ga. – has become known as the “Miracle Child” at Navicent Health after recovering from multiple system traumas sustained during a motor vehicle accident.
A party in Taylor’s honor will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17 at CHNH (888 Pine Street, Macon, Ga.) This is not a public event, but media are cordially invited to attend.
On September 20, 2014, Taylor sustained multiple traumatic injuries to his abdominal organs while wearing only a lap belt during a car crash. While doing all that they could to save Taylor’s life, physicians and clinicians at Navicent Health realized that Taylor’s chances of survival were very slim and did not believe that he would survive. However, Taylor continuously defied science and, despite multisystem organ failure, Navicent Health’s clinical team – which included pediatric and adult physicians, surgeons and nurses as well as pharmacists and staff from the laboratory and blood bank – found innovative ways to support Taylor’s organs as they healed.
“Taylor’s recovery is indeed a reason to celebrate. This is a celebration not only of the remarkable teamwork exhibited by our staff, but also of his parents Wendy and Donterrious, who have not left his side, and the human spirit’s remarkable will to survive,” said Dr. Ninfa M Saunders, President and CEO of Navicent Health.
Saunders, along with Taylor’s physician and clinical team, will be available for interviews at the party. The theme of the party is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Taylor’s personal favorite.
