Flint Energies CEO Proposes Government Regulations Challenging to Members’ Electric Bills

Press release from the issuing company

Thursday, October 23rd, 2014

Proposed government regulations are expected to be extremely challenging for Flint Energies member bills, according to Chief Executive Officer Bob Ray.

“Since 2008, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has generated at least nine new regulations which attempt to reduce coal-fired generation for power plants,” said Ray. “Just two of those regulations have already cost Flint members $105 million.”

“These regulations essentially prevent construction of future coal generation plants,” he said. “The new ‘Clean Power Plan’ which has been proposed gives Georgia no credit for already reducing emissions since 2005, sets targets for renewable energy and efficiency which will cost more than they save, calls for more natural gas generation but no more gas pipelines to get the gas into Georgia….and effectively destroys affordable energy for our members.”

Flint’s members have been responding to the EPA by writing emails at www.tellepa.com

Ray updated the members on other project during his presentation. Flint’s newest project for its members is the construction of the new Headquarters building in Reynolds and an operation center west of Reynolds at the old Trae Chevrolet property.

“This construction confirms Flint’s firm commitment to its rural roots,” said Ray.

Ray also told the audience about the cooperative’s response to new solar generation possibilities, how members have new choices with Pay Your Way prepaid electric service, and what Flint is doing to ensure the cybersecurity of its assets.

The meeting attendees also honored important contributions made by two members who passed away this year. The “Spirit of Flint” award went to the family of William L. Brown. Brown served the Flint Energies Board of Directors for 26 years, ascending to Chairman’s seat where he served 8 years. A “Distinguished Service” award was made to the wife of Dick Walden, who served as Master of Ceremonies at the Flint annual meetings for many years.

Flint Energies hosted some 1,000 members at its 77th annual meeting of members held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry. Nearly 2800 members participated in the annual meeting process by returning their mail ballot.

The top prizes awarded were two $1500 Flint Energies shopping sprees that can be used to pay a member’s electric bill. The winners were Tangie Moroney of Fort Valley and Mr. and Mrs. Tobbie L Jones of Warner Robins. 40 other members won an array of door prizes which included numerous electric appliances and gift cards along with a big-screen TV.
