Flint Energies recently showed its commitment to five rural volunteer fire departments in Macon County by donating a total of $1,000 for life-saving equipment.
Marian McLemore, Flint’s Manager of Public Relations, presented checks at the July Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting in Montezuma on Wednesday, July 16, 2014. The five departments that received money were Ideal VFD, Montezuma VFD, Oglethorpe VFD, Macon County Fire and Rescue and Macon State Prison VFD. Each department received $250.00 to spend on much-needed equipment such as back-up cameras for fire trucks, turn out gear and Jaws of Life. The funds for Macon State Prison VFD were given to Macon County Fire and Rescue to be earmarked for the department.
“Volunteer fire departments provide an important service to our rural members. They volunteer their time in order to help protect their families, neighbors and friends as well as property and homes. Their dedication is essential to a high quality of life in our rural communities. We want to recognize them for their efforts and assist them in obtaining the tools that they need,” stated McLemore.
