The Medical Center of Central Georgia will welcome 38 new residents and fellows in a traditional “white coat ceremony” this month. This is the fourth observance of its kind at MCCG and is a tradition among academic hospitals like MCCG.
The white coat welcome ceremony was held Tuesday in MCCG’s Trice Lobby.
“As a premier teaching facility, The Medical Center of Central Georgia has five accredited physician residency programs and three fellowship programs. The majority of physicians that train here enter practice in Georgia,” said Dr. Fady Wanna, Chief Medical Officer at MCCG.
The ceremony commences post-graduate medical training for residents and additional specialized experience for fellows. After remarks from MCCG Board Chairman Ken Harper, M.D. and Mercer University Professor of Medicine Dr. Ed Grimsley, a formal enrobing of white coats will end the ceremony.
“This ceremony marks an important milestone in the lives of these residents and fellows. It is a day that we hope clarifies for them the true meaning of humanism in medicine – that as physicians, they will strive not only to cure their patients, but alsocare for them,” said Dr. William Bina, Dean of the Mercer University School of Medicine.
There are 33 residents and five fellows beginning specialized training this year.
