The Wellness Center Encourages Downtown Employees to Walk During Workday

Press release from the issuing company

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

The Wellness Center, Macon Health Club and The Medical Center of Central Georgia encourage the community to take a walk.

TWC and MHC will launch a walking initiative for MCCG employees today at 12:00 p.m. Employees are encouraged to walk from MCCG’s Luce Heart Tower at 777 Hemlock Street to MHC at 389 First Street  - 1.76 miles roundtrip – in order to increase physical health and mental wellness.

Although employees are encouraged to walk this route throughout the year, TWC will host a “Walk This Way” contest from March 3-31. Employees who record the most miles walked will receive prizes, including gift baskets and gift certificates. Although the contest is only open to MCCG employees, others working in downtown Macon are encouraged to walk the route to increase their own health and wellness.

“Thirty minutes of moderate physical activity, like a brisk walk, at least five times a week has significant health benefits, including lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension and type II diabetes. This program is designed to complement, not compete with, a busy lifestyle. We encourage employees to use this contest to begin a routine that will impact their health and wellness, step by step,” said Ashley Lord, Lead Exercise Physiologist at TWC.
