State Legislature Closed Until Friday

The Georgia Legislature will not resume its business until Friday, as Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and House Speaker David Ralston, R-Blue Ridge, heeded the call for state workers to stay off metro Atlanta’s ice-bound roads.
“Law enforcement and first responders are appropriately focused on returning children to parents, providing relief to stranded motorists and clearing major roadways,” Cagle and Ralston said in a joint statement Wednesday afternoon. “Additional vehicles on the roads will only complicate these efforts.”
The decision to suspend lawmakers’ work followed a decision by Gov. Nathan Deal to keep state government offices closed Wednesday and Thursday to allow emergency workers to do their jobs as the region struggled to get a grip after Tuesday’s snowstorm. Like Deal, Cagle and Ralston thanked the “generous actions” of those who helped people stranded by the storm.
