Mount de Sales Prepares for 150th Founder’s Day Celebration to Recognize 150 Years of Excellence
Friday, February 27th, 2026
The Mount de Sales Academy community will celebrate a historic milestone this weekend as the Catholic private school marks 150 years of faith, character, and academic excellence.
The 150th Founder’s Day Celebration will take place Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Mount de Sales’ downtown campus in Macon.
“One hundred and fifty years is not an accident,” said Mount de Sales President Brendan O’Kane. “It is the fruit of prayer, courage, vision, and the enduring investment in Catholic education by our teachers, students, alumni, clergy, trustees, and friends of the Academy.”
Lester Miller is scheduled to issue an official proclamation recognizing the Academy’s milestone. Members of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Savannah will be in attendance, including Bishop Stephen Parkes, Father John Johnson, and Superintendent Carrie-Jane Williamson. Additional guests include Mercy Education Executive Director Sister Lisa Marie Griffith and Nell Stetser. The oldest alumna expected to attend is Felicia Seguin, Class of 1945, who attended when Mount de Sales operated as an all-girls junior college.
Founded in 1876 by the Sisters of Mercy, Mount de Sales has formed generations of students in faith, character, and scholarship. The evening’s celebration will begin with live music by Jettison Blue, followed by headliner Macon Music Revue. Harpist Betsy Fitzgerald will perform during the Fine Arts exhibit and silent art auction. The event is also slated to feature historical displays, a faith-centered exhibit, and alumni-curated presentations in the arts and athletics, all reflecting the enduring spirit of Mercy that has guided the Academy for 150 years.
In addition, Piedmont Brewery and Kitchen plans to debut a special commemorative brew during the 150th Celebration in honor of Chris Sheridan, Class of 1967. Sheridan is recognized for a lifetime of service to Mount de Sales as a student, alumnus, former trustee, and generous philanthropist.
The Founder’s Day Celebration is a ticketed event that is currently sold out. For more information about the celebration, visit www.committothecavaliers.net/mds-150th-founders-day.
