Historic Macon Honors 2025 Preservation Leaders
Friday, May 16th, 2025
Historic Macon handed out its 2025 Preservation Awards Tuesday night, honoring significant restoration projects and saluting four people for their contributions to the community.
The preservation nonprofit welcomed a new board chairman and a new slate of board members, and it also renamed one of its awards for the late Josh Rogers.
Executive Director Nathan Lott shared highlights of Historic Macon’s last 12 months, welcoming those who attended the annual meeting, held at the new Bibb Music Lofts.
“You support Historic Macon because you believe in our mission — to revitalize communities,” he said. “We work within our field of expertise to foster economic vitality and cultural vitality for the people who call our historic city home.”
Historic Macon has consulted on more than 140 tax incentive projects in more than a dozen cities across Georgia, Lott said. These projects have generated over $145 million in private investment and created more than 400 housing units.
In renaming Historic Macon’s Revitalization Award for Rogers, Bowen Reichert Shoemaker, HMF’s outgoing board chair, told those gathered: “We pondered how best to honor the legacy of Josh Rogers, and finally determined that the most fitting thing we could do was to rename the Revitalization Award in his honor.
“Josh was a powerful force for revitalization in Macon, and from this year forward this award will bear his name.”
