SCORE, formerly the Service Corps of Retired Executives, plays a vital role in fostering small business success across Georgia. As a nonprofit organization and partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), SCORE provides free mentoring and educational services to entrepreneurs at every stage of their business journey. Volunteers aid businesses by providing an objective look at an enterprises vision, marketing strategies, implementation efforts, and finances.

In 2024 alone, SCORE’s efforts led to the creation of 2,555 new businesses and over 3,700 jobs in Georgia. These achievements underscore its commitment to economic growth and community development. Services include guidance on business planning, marketing strategies, financial management, and navigating industry-specific challenges.

With nearly 300 dedicated volunteers statewide, SCORE has become a cornerstone for aspiring and established business owners alike. There are seven active chapters in Georgia- ATLANTA; NORTH METRO ATLANTA; SAVANNAH; COLUMBUS; MIDDLE GEORGIA; NORTHEAST GEORGIA and SOUTH GEORGIA. Measured by mentoring sessions conducted, North Metro Atlanta is the 5th busiest chapter in the Nation.

SCORE volunteers, seasoned professionals with diverse expertise, are unpaid. They are generously giving their time to further small business development, often with minority women and men. Volunteers offer personalized mentorship tailored to the needs of these individual entrepreneurs. They are are entirely honest and objective, looking at both the big picture and everyday operations.  

Volunteers have a wide range of experience and come from a variety of industries. These men and women have widely varying backgrounds in finance, marketing, strategic planning, communications, operations, purchasing/supply chain, and development. Plus, government and the not-for-profit world.

SCORE also hosts numerous workshops and seminars covering topics like social media marketing, accounting practices, and import/export strategies. These programs are designed to equip small business owners with the tools needed to thrive in competitive markets. Additionally, SCORE provides access to a comprehensive library of resources, including templates and checklists for business operations.
