Mercer Law School to Host 8th Annual Lauren Giddings 5K to Benefit Scholarships
Thursday, November 7th, 2024
Mercer Law School’s Association of Women Law Students (AWLS) will host its annual Lauren Giddings 5K on Sunday, Nov. 17 on Cruz Plaza on Mercer’s undergraduate Macon campus, with the race kicking off at 10:00 a.m.
Walk-up registration is available the day of the race, and pets are welcome. To run (or walk) the race, you may register here or email [email protected]. We welcome runners and walkers of all ages. Prizes will be awarded to overall male/female and first-place male/female in age groups: under 18, 18-34, 35-49, and 50+. Registration is $30 per runner. In case of inclement weather, there will be a back-up plan.
The principal purpose of the Lauren Giddings 5k is to honor and remember 2011 graduate Lauren Giddings by awarding scholarships to third-year law students who are members of AWLS, an organization in which Lauren was deeply involved.
Lauren Giddings was a Mercer Law student and dedicated AWLS member who passed away in 2011. She was involved throughout the Law School and is remembered for her passion for giving back, including her diligence with the Public Defender Clinic. AWLS hosts a yearly 5K in honor of her love for running. Proceeds from this event will contribute to scholarships awarded to our most involved and academically dedicated graduating members of Mercer AWLS to supplement the costs of preparing for the bar exam.
For those interested in sponsoring the event, please click here or email [email protected]. All donations and sponsorships benefit the scholarship and are tax deductible, as you will receive a tax receipt and confirmation of your gift from Mercer University.
AWLS Fall Philanthropy Chair Morgan Simmons said, “It is truly an honor to be a part of this 5K tradition which keeps Lauren’s memory alive in the Macon community she loved so dearly.”
Special thanks to our Presenting Sponsors, Burnside Law Firm, Guardian Litigation Group, LLP, and Doc, ’81 and Helen Schneider, John and Kristin Tucker, and McKenzie Miller.
