Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, October 7th, 2024

Macon Area Habitat for Humanity will host Habitat Week 2024 through a series of events from October 7-13, 2024. Macon Area Habitat for Humanity invites the community to celebrate affordable homeownership through a ribbon cutting and birthday party on World Habitat Day, kick-off of construction in Milledgeville, a fundraiser in partnership with Macon Bagels, a customer appreciation sale at the ReStore, and the Home Court Pickleball Tournament. For over 35 years, MAHFH has partnered with families to create access to safe, decent, and affordable housing in Macon-Bibb and Jones Counties.

“We invite everyone to join in celebrations around the world and reflect on the positive impact of homeownership on families, neighborhoods, and the entire community,” said Ivey Hall, Executive Director of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. “Habitat Week also provides an opportunity for the community to recognize the need for affordable housing, the exciting work that is being done to address the need and how we can all play an important part to make sure housing is available to all families in our community.

Monday, October 7 – World Habitat Day

The United Nations established World Habitat Day in 1985 to spotlight the need for adequate shelter worldwide. Every year Habitat for Humanity joins our partners around the world to rededicate ourselves to recognizing the fundamental right to adequate shelter. Habitat for Humanity asks everyone to join together as one global network in communicating that every one of us deserves the opportunity for a better future. A decent place to live can remove barriers to opportunity, health, and success that might have been part of a family’s life for years and, in many cases, for generations. Locally we will celebrate World Habitat Day with a Ribbon Cutting and birthday party for President Jimmy Carter and the new Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Community Room at 690 Holt Avenue at 2pm.

Tuesday, October 8 – Construction Kick-off Celebrate in Milledgeville

The community is invited to join as at 2254 Leo Court, Milledgeville at 2:00pm to kick

off our long-awaited return to construction in Milledgeville! We will celebrate the beginning of construction on the first of 4 homes funded by a CHIP grant. Guests will meet the new homeowners, view floor plans and walk the property.
