The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority (MBCIA) hosted their bi-annual Industry Partners Luncheon this Thursday, September 12, at Rhythm and Rally Sports and Events. The event, themed “Court-Side Conversations,” brought together Human Resources professionals, Plant Managers, and senior leaders from local industries - many of which are global companies – to discuss the critical issues of recruiting and retaining top talent in today’s competitive environment.

“Here in Macon-Bibb, we’re fortunate to have industries that are both deeply rooted in our community and connected to global best practices,” said Eleyce Coleman, MBCIA Existing Industry Manager. “Today’s conversations were about sharing practical, actionable insights to not only attract but also retain a skilled and committed workforce right here in Macon.”

The luncheon featured discussion moderated by MBCIA Executive Director, Stephen Adams, with key contributions from Eddie Cummins, Corporate Director of Operational Transformation, Coca-Cola Bottling Company United and Grover Hardin, Plant Manager, Irving Consumer Products. The speakers shared how their organizations leverage resources to help meet the specific needs of their local workforce.

At Irving Consumer Products, safety isn’t just a priority – it’s how we keep our people with us for the long haul,” said Grover Hardin. “When employees know they are looked after, they are more likely to stay and grow with us.”

J.R. Olive, Vice President of Operations at Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, and Howard Scott, Business Services Representative at WorkSource Middle Georgia, shared valuable resources and strategies to support local industries in their talent acquisition and retention efforts. Olive specifically covered tools and programs available through GreaterCareerWorks.org and highlighted initiatives from ChooseMacon.com.

Mayor Lester Miller, emphasizing the significance of the venue, said, “Having the world’s largest indoor pickleball facility right here in Macon isn’t just about recreation – it's a symbol of how we’re thinking big while staying true to what makes us unique. We’re a city that can attract major businesses, but at the end of the day, it’s still about people and relationships. Rhythm and Rally is a symbol of the crossroads between quality of life and workforce development.”

Following the formal discussions, attendees were encouraged to network with the speakers and each other, reinforcing Macon-Bibb's unique position as a city where global industry meets local connection.
