This Saturday, September 2nd, in honor of National Bacon Day, Visit Macon will launch the newest (and tastiest!) addition to its Tour Macon mobile app, the Macon Bacon Trail. 

Bacon is not just for breakfast in Macon. This one-of-a-kind food trail explores the renaissance of this key ingredient that has quickly become synonymous with the city “Where Soul Lives.”

In 2017, the Macon community and fans of Macon, Georgia’s based wood-bat collegiate summer baseball team in the Coastal Plain League, voted on the name ‘Macon Bacon.’ The team is truly a visitor favorite and offers some of the most coveted athletic merchandise outside of the major leagues! 

Now, even when the season isn’t in full swing, you can still experience the next best thing in the South... the food! This delicious culinary journey will currently take you to 20 of Macon’s most beloved restaurants to seek out dishes that highlight this deliciously indulgent ingredient.  

“Wrapped, sprinkled, topped, or even as the star of the show, the dishes along the trail are sure to pack the tastiest punch! Take a couple of days, weeks, or an entire year to try them all and collect your prizes!” explains Visit Macon’s Director of Marketing, Marisa Rodgers.  

“We – along with our public relations/media partners who have helped us put Macon onto many National publication’s ‘Where to Go’ lists this year – wanted to create a food-based trail that only Macon could truly ‘own.’ says Rodgers. “And we hope the trail continues to expand with more bacon-themed beverages or even some plant-based bacon alternatives. We’d love this trail to be for everyone! We will be welcoming writers, influencers & national media to explore the trail on upcoming visits scheduled for this October.

“Our restaurant partners picked their favorite staple bacon-adorned dishes to feature, and we promise they will not disappoint our bacon-loving visitors!”

The Macon Bacon Trail is available for free in the Tour Macon app in the Apple or GooglePlay app stores.  Try a bacon-creation and claim your badge(s) inside the Tour Macon app! Bring your phones/mobile-devices or proof of purchases into Visit Macon’s Downtown Visitors Center (450 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) to show your earned badges to the Destination Specialists and win multiple prizes.
