Tuesday, August 1st, 2023

The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority (MBCIA) coordinated a Developers Day with several project managers with the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) and the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation, and Southern Company yesterday. The event provided a detailed look at the inner-workings of a few key MBCIA community partners in Macon-Bibb County.

Participants gained a better understanding of the process and distribution systems of the Macon Water Authority’s (MWA) Frank C. Amerson, Jr. Water Treatment Plant; they learned about Macon’s rich music history during a guided tour hosted by Rock Candy Tours; and they concluded their day with a Macon Baseball game at the historic Luther Williams Field.

“The Amerson Plant features a conventional design and enhanced drinking water production capacity of 60 million gallons per day,” shared Ron Shipman, Executive Director of Macon Water Authority, as he led the group on a tour. “And the great part is we have plenty of room for growth. Our existing facility is equipped to handle an expansion to up to 90 MGD of production capacity in the future.”

“We love to show off to visitors and locals alike the fascinating and colorful sites in our part of the South,” boasted Jamie Weatherford, co-founder of Rock Candy Tours. “We shared stories with these economic development leaders so they can be proud of the history of the town they continue to help grow.”

The MBCIA is committed to attracting new businesses and industries to Macon-Bibb County and helping existing businesses grow and succeed. “Creating a memorable experience with a group like this is the reason we started doing these tours,” shared Stephen Adams, Executive Director of the MBCIA. “We get to strengthen connections with our community partners while sharing the unique value of our area by highlighting the successes we have worked so hard to accomplish.”

Developers Day is a way for the MBCIA to showcase the international reach and local impact of the economic development happening across Macon-Bibb County.
