Sheridan Construction Celebrates 75 Years of Premier Construction
Tuesday, January 4th, 2022
Sheridan Construction celebrates its 75th anniversary this year as a construction manager and general contractor providing premier construction services throughout Georgia.
Sheridan Construction has been a staple in the Middle Georgia community since 1947. The Sheridan-Punaro Construction Company was founded on July 1, 1947, by cousins Chris R. Sheridan Sr. and Angelo Punaro. The company’s first projects included a building for Billy Cassidy – - whose family is still a client today – as well as the first of more than 100 projects for Mount de Sales Academy.
“More than a milestone, our 75th anniversary represents hundreds of thousands of work hours, millions of conversations, and years of hard work serving the Middle Georgia community,” says Christy Kovac, President and Chief Executive Officer for Sheridan Construction. “The past 75 years have seen triumphs, lessons learned, new builds and renovations, repeat clients, more than 600 projects – 25 of those being on the National Registry of Historic Places – as well as statewide growth with our new office in LaGrange.”
Chris R. Sheridan, Sr., retired in 1990 after 43 years of hard work and devotion to Sheridan Construction and the Macon community. His son, Chris R. Sheridan Jr., was named president of the firm in 1993. In 2015, Sheridan Construction became a 100-percent Employee Stock Ownership Plan or ESOP. Christy Kovac made history in 2016 when she was named President of Sheridan Construction, making her the first woman to be named president of a construction company in the Middle Georgia area.
“Over the years,” Kovac says, “we’ve grown beyond Middle Georgia with projects across the state. That growth continued with the opening of our West Georgia office in 2021. We look forward to new projects and our company’s continued growth for decades and centuries to come.”
Sheridan Construction will be celebrating community and corporate events throughout the year to recognize its 75th anniversary. For more information about the celebration and scheduled events, please visit www.sheridanconstruction.com.
