Goodwill Partners with WorkSource Boards on Dislocated Worker Grant
Monday, November 29th, 2021
Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia, Inc. has partnered with WorkSource Macon-Bibb and WorkSource Middle Georgia to help individuals get back to work in time for the holidays.
Last year the Technical College System of Georgia’s Office of Workforce Development was awarded a Dislocated Worker Grant by the U.S. Department of Labor totaling $12 million. These discretionary grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor provide resources to states in response to large, unexpected layoff events that cause significant job losses, such as COVID-19.
Distributed through local WorkSource Georgia partners such as WorkSource Macon-Bibb and WorkSource Middle Georgia, this funding will allow individuals whose jobs were impacted by COVID-19 to gain temporary employment assisting with COVID mitigation related positions while they seek permanent employment.
Because Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia is committed to ensuring that our donors, staff, and customers are protected this holiday season, we have partnered with several of our local WorkSource boards to create these positions and employ additional individuals in these temporary roles. Eligible employees will work with Goodwill retail and career center locations to assist with maintaining COVID safety protocols including sanitizing and disinfecting frequently utilized areas such as entrance doors, cash registers and office spaces, as well as, providing humanitarian services by ensuring appropriate safety procedures within each location. Goodwill anticipates hiring approximately 30 individuals under this grant.
“We are looking for anyone that was laid off (temporarily or permanently) as a result of COVID, someone that has been long-term unemployed, someone that has been laid off not related to COVID, or a person that was self-employed that became unemployed as a result of COVID.”, says Director of Workforce for Middle Georgia Regional Commission, Tiffany Andrews.
On-the-spot interview and hiring events are planned in Eatonton on November 30th, Macon on December 2nd, and Milledgeville on December 3rd. Individuals that are interested in applying for one of these positions can contact JaMelle Hill, Employer Operations Specialist II, at [email protected] or by contacting the Helms Career Center located at 240 Broadway, Macon, GA at (478) 703-0450 for more information.
