The Faces of Manufacturing in Georgia, a program sponsored by Georgia Tech, recently named Benjy Holt of Hawkinsville as their July 2016 Face for his work within manufacturing. Holt was nominated for the award by Central Georgia Technical College.
The award was presented to him among family, colleagues and community leaders in a brief ceremony at Graphic Packaging International in Perry, on Tuesday.
Holt, manager of engineering, maintenance, and reliability at GPI, is a long-standing partner in Economic Development and credit training programs at the College, working with CGTC for continuing education training, hiring graduates and involvement in the Connect to Your Career campaign.
CGTC and Holt work to provide assessments and training to students and his current employees in order to fill the gaps in skill-sets among hires.
“The purpose is to make workers more efficient, more skilled, and say that we have a true development program for hires,” Holt said of his partnership with CGTC.
Several vice presidents from the College attended the event, showing their gratitude toward Holt’s achievements and work with Economic Development division and the Industrial Systems Technology program at CGTC.
Andrea Griner, vice president of Economic Development, said the division enjoys the opportunity to continually support a range of training needs.
While receiving the award, Holt commented on how most people choose the job they have but that he did not; it chose him. Making the skills of workers better hits home to Holt because he’s worked so long in the industry. He conveyed that receiving this honor is a reflection of showing up every day and being the hardest worker.
FMG, an initiative of the Georgia Manufacturing Partnership at Georgia Tech (GaMEP), gives the honor to those who work within manufacturing or are affected by the companies across the state.
The program selects one individual each month from a list of nominees compiled on their website during the year.
The stories of the Georgia’s hard-working and dedicated nominees are posted on the FMG site. When a selection for the month’s honoree is made, a more in-depth profile is produced.
