Mercer University, College Hill Alliance, Macon-Bibb County Announce Plans for New Hotel-Restaurant Development

Mercer University, the College Hill Alliance and Macon-Bibb County announced Tuesday plans for construction of a new hotel and restaurant development on Mercer’s Macon campus. The hotel, which is among the first of a new prototype for Marriott’s TownePlace Suites brand, is set to be completed next fall and will feature 95 rooms, all with full kitchens and the latest television and Internet technology.

Boeing to Invest $81M, Create Up to 200 Jobs in Macon-Bibb County

Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner, Chris Carr, joined Boeing Company officials and Macon-Bibb County leaders to announce that The Boeing Company, the world’s largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial, business and defense jets and space security systems, will invest $81.7 million to retrofit and equip their existing defense-related facility in the Airport Industrial Park in Macon- Bibb County for the commercial manufacturing of 747-8 fuselage panel assemblies. Over the next three years, this undertaking will create up to 200 new jobs.

Ron Shipman Named Vice President of Georgia Power’s Central Region

Georgia Power announced today that Ron Shipman has been named vice president of the company’s Central Region. In his new role, Shipman will lead Georgia Power’s operations for 165,000 customers in a 26-county area including the cities of Macon, Dublin, Hawkinsville, Milledgeville, Perry and Vidalia.

State Receives Federal Funds to Enhance Middle Georgia Workforce

The Sector Partnership National Emergency Grant (NEG) supports workforce training for manufacturing and logistics companies in two of Georgia’s 19 Local Workforce Development Areas.
