Local residents, community leaders and GEICO associates attended a thank-you event at the GEICO office in Macon as the company and its associates were named United Way of Central Georgia’s top contributor for the 11th year in a row, pledging $1,140,169 during the 2014 United Way campaign.
GEICO is the first company campaign in central Georgia to ever top the $1.1 million mark. GEICO associates raised $925,598 and their corporate gift was $214,570. Their campaign raised more than $100,000 over last year’s for an 11 percent increase.
“I am very proud of the leadership and generosity that GEICO has shown in the way of fundraising for the United Way,” said 2014 United Way Campaign Chair Eddie Norris, President and CEO of CB&T Bank. “They have recognized the needs in our community and trusted the United Way with fulfilling those needs for so many of our fellow citizens. GEICO and their team members have gone above and beyond with raising over $1,000,000.00 for the United Way to allocate to its 31 partner agencies. I am very proud to have them in our community. We can all learn something from their example.”
George McCanless, president and CEO of United Way of Central Georgia, expressed his gratitude and said, “GEICO's campaign results this year are nothing short of amazing, and further highlight the incredible generosity of their management and staff. They have once again demonstrated their commitment to our community, and tens of thousands of Central Georgian's lives will be positively impacted as a result. I definitely know what day it is--it is GEICO Appreciation Day.”
"The culture of giving at the GEICO Macon office is something to be extremely proud of," said GEICO Southeastern Regional Vice President Rhett Rayburn. "Our associates continue to raise the bar each year, and our partnership with United Way illustrates just how generous they truly are and how much they care about the community."
GEICO’s Macon office, which continues to grow and is hiring for positions in sales, service and claims and its leadership program, has supported the United Way of Central Georgia for more than 25 years.
