President/CEO of Perry Area Chamber of Commerce Darlene McLendon talks about the importance at the Perry Chamber to show appreciation for the dedicated service of elected officials of Houston County as well as Georgia’s state officials. She also talks about an upcoming Lunch & Learn as well.
Darlene McLendon, President of Perry Area Chamber of Commerce, says her group feels it is important to take time to show appreciation for the dedicated service of elected officials of Houston County as well as Georgia’s state officials. So, for the 15th year, the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee will present their Annual Legislative Appreciation Reception on Aug. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Go Fish Education Center, 1225 Perry Parkway in Perry, Ga. McLendon explains why her team feels it’s important to hold this event each year. “The Perry Chamber respects the dedication of our public officials and knows that public service is a calling, not a job,” she says. “As an organization, we are pleased to offer our members the opportunity to build relationships with these individuals. Though this event is a small token, we hope that it shows our representatives that their service isn't taken from granted and that we care”
She also adds that while the event serves as an opportunity for the Chamber to say thank you to the state and federal legislators of Houston County, it also provides a platform for these offices to network with their constituents.
“The first part of the evening includes refreshments during a meet and greet time for attendees to visit with each other; including the legislators. This is one of the main draws for attendance: Time to learn more about who represents you and speak with them in person.
“About 30 minutes into the event, the Governmental Affairs Committee Chair will ask our guest legislators to join him for a time of recognition and acknowledgment of their service to Houston County. Following this ceremony, networking continues and refreshments remain available.”
