Best-Paying Construction Jobs in Georgia

Wednesday, February 21st, 2024

The construction industry has experienced a period of heightened activity over the past several years, driven by significant growth in private residential construction and record increases in public funding for infrastructure projects. In fact, the federal government has committed to investing over $2 trillion in areas including transportation, energy, manufacturing, broadband, and more over the next decade.

With this tremendous growth in mind, researchers set out to find the best-paying construction occupations. They analyzed the most common construction jobs, using data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and ranked construction occupations by median hourly wage.

Here are some key stats from the report:

  • Specialized positions such as elevator installers, boilermakers, and pile driver operators tend to command higher rates: all have a national median hourly wage of $30 or more. Elevator and escalator installers and repairers earn significantly more, in fact, with a national median hourly rate of $47.60.

  • At the opposite end of the spectrum are construction helper roles, though their median hourly wages ($17 to $19) are still strong relative to the educational requirements for entry.

  • Earnings can significantly vary based not only on the nature of the construction role, but location as well. Hawaii and Illinois boast median hourly wages exceeding $35, while Massachusetts and Alaska approach $33 per hour.

  • Conversely, numerous Southern states pay less than $22 per hour for construction labor.
