Piedmont Heart Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery of Macon has hired two cardiovascular surgeons who will be operating at Piedmont Macon Medical Center, including one with deep roots in Macon.

The addition of Richard L. Harvey, M.D., and David Allen Langford, M.D., adds a new level of cardiac expertise at Piedmont Macon and bolsters Piedmont’s commitment to its cardiovascular program in Middle Georgia.

“By adding two new cardiothoracic surgeons at Piedmont Macon, we are helping to serve the needs of the community,” said Charles L. Brown, M.D., CEO, Piedmont’s Physician Enterprise. “It also is an example of how Piedmont invests in the hospitals that join our system to provide greater care to those in need.”

Dr. Harvey’s joining the practice brings him full circle in Macon. After he earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Dr. Harvey completed his residency at Mercer University in Macon in general surgery and the University of Mississippi in cardiothoracic surgery.

In private practice in Macon from 2000 to 2014, Dr. Harvey specializes in mitral valve surgery, minimally invasive surgery, AFIB and aortic surgery. He is board certified in thoracic surgery.

Dr. Harvey has a combined 20 years practicing in Middle Georgia and is returning after a nearly 10-year absence from the midstate.

“I’m happy to be back in Macon,” he said.

Dr. Langford received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and also is board certified in thoracic surgery. The Atlanta native has been in practice for more than 30 years.

Dr. Langford, who previously worked with Dr. Harvey for years in the Atlanta market, specializes in coronary artery bypass, aortic valve, aortic aneurysm, mitral valve and adult cardiac surgeries.

“I’m excited to help build a world-class heart program here in Macon and continue my longstanding partnership with Dr. Harvey in collaboration with the Piedmont Heart Institute,” Dr. Langford said.

Piedmont Heart Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery of Macon is located at 380 Hospital Drive, Suite 370 on the Piedmont Macon Medical Center campus. Dr. Harvey and Dr. Langford are accepting new patients and can be reached at 478.200.8152. The surgical practice accepts most major insurance plans.
