Bibb County Board of Education Officers Elected for 2023

During its regular monthly meeting on January 19, 2023, the Bibb County Board of Education elected its slate of officers for the 2023 calendar year. Juawn Jackson was elected to the role of President, with Myrtice C. Johnson set to serve as Vice President and Kristin Hanlon elected Treasurer. A native of Macon, Mr. Jackson graduated from Westside High School after also attending Jessie Rice Elementary School and Bloomfield Middle School. He has degrees from Georgia College and State University and Mercer University and is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Higher Education Management from the University of Georgia. He previously served as Chair of the Board’s Policy and Rules Committee.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to have been elected President of the Bibb County Board of Education,” Mr. Jackson said. “This year will bring new challenges and opportunities as we finalize our District’s strategic planning process, which will determine our trajectory for the next five years. As Board President, my aim is to lead to our governance team to ensure efficiency in our practices and effectiveness in our oversight and policy-making duties.” Mrs. Johnson is a graduate of Sumter High School in Americus, and she received her undergraduate degree from Albany State University. A career educator who served in Bibb County schools for a total of 31 years, Mrs. Johnson also holds graduate degrees from Mercer University, the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. She is a former President of the Bibb Retired Educators Association and the Georgia Retired Educators Association, and she previously served as Chair of the Board’s Instructional Services Committee.

Each student will demonstrate strength of character and will be college or career ready. Mission: The Bibb County School District develops a highly trained staff and an engaged community dedicated to educating each student for a 21st century global society. “My vision for the Bibb County School District in 2023 is that we may be able to focus on developing a workable, obtainable Strategic Plan for our School District,” she said. “I also hope we will be able to motivate our teachers and staff to move our students to the next level of success in student achievement.” Kristin Hanlon, originally from Minnesota, graduated from Hollywood Hills High School in Hollywood, Florida.

She received a pair of bachelor’s degrees from Florida State University before pursuing a career as an Certified Public Accountant. She has served in leadership roles at multiple financial institutions in the Middle Georgia area and is entering her second year as Treasurer for the Board of Education. "I am so excited about the opportunities to move the district forward in 2023, through envisioning, creating and implementing a new five-year strategic plan,” Mrs. Hanlon said. “In addition, the ‘Show Up!’ campaign will engage the entire community – students, teachers and staff, parents and community – into fully embracing educational and career opportunities, creating a bright future for our students and our community."
