Piedmont Macon has agreed to provide $200,000 annually in pro bono patient radiology services for the next two years to the Macon Volunteer Clinic, which provides medical services to uninsured, working Middle Georgia residents. The agreement will provide for X-rays and ultrasounds, officials announced this week.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Piedmont Macon,” said Nancy White, the clinic’s executive director. “Piedmont’s pro bono radiology services help advance primary healthcare for hundreds of patients annually, strengthening families, our workforce and our community as a whole. We are passionate about our mission of caring for the uninsured, financially challenged workers of Bibb and Twiggs counties, helping them manage and maintain their health while avoiding the emergency room, which is better utilized for true emergencies.”

Stephen J. Daugherty, CEO of Piedmont Macon Medical Center and Piedmont Macon North Hospital, said the donation of radiology services to the Macon Volunteer Clinic is in keeping with Piedmont’s mission as a not-for-profit hospital.

“One of our priorities is to ensure that the community has access to affordable health care and medical services, regardless of income,” Daugherty said. “One of the ways we are working to achieve this goal is to partner with groups such as the Macon Volunteer Clinic.”

Ensuring affordable health care to everyone in the community, including those who face challenges with income or insurance issues, is a cornerstone of the Community Health Needs Assessment that was recently completed for Piedmont’s Macon hospitals. That assessment will serve as a blueprint for Piedmont Macon’s work to partner with other organizations to serve the community over the next few years.

The Macon Volunteer Clinic, founded in 2003, serves residents of Bibb and Twiggs counties who are working, uninsured, 18 to 64 years old and earn less than 200 percent of the federal poverty limits.
