Dr. Don Spillers, founder of Spillers Orthodontics, recently accepted a position as adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Orthodontics at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry.

In this role, Dr. Spillers will work one-on-one with 13 residents every eight weeks in the orthodontic clinic in a hands-on capacity-- screening patients, treating cases alongside them, and showing them how to use Invisalign® and a variety of other clear aligners. He will also lecture students on various orthodontic-related topics.

“The Department is fortunate to have an international and nationally-renowned orthodontist and educator such as Dr. Spillers dedicate his time to the Department,” says Dr. Chung Kau, chair, UAB, Department of Orthodontics. “The residents will not only benefit from his knowledge in innovations and discoveries in orthodontics, but also his professionalism for patient care.”

The School of Dentistry at The University of Alabama at Birmingham was founded in 1948 and is the only dental school in Alabama. The goal of the Department of Orthodontics is to help excellent, ethical and compassionate dentists become versatile, well-trained practitioners in the art and science of orthodontics. Students and residents practice in a facility boasting the latest and greatest orthodontic technology available today.

“Orthodontics is such a fascinating field,” says Dr. Spillers. “I am excited and honored to be able to teach these incredibly bright orthodontic residents who represent the future of my profession.”
