Macon Sees All-Time Low Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Macon recorded an all-time low unemployment rate of 2.7 percent, down one-tenth of a percent over the month.  A year ago, the rate was 6.1 percent.

"We are continuing to see all-time low unemployment rates across the state along with job growth in all of our statistical areas,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “The focus now is getting more Georgians into the workforce to fill these critical positions, particularly as we gear up for a strong holiday employment season.”

The labor force increased in Macon by 272 and ended the month with 103,320. That number is up 802 when compared to October of 2020.

Macon finished the month with 100,549 employed residents.  That number increased by 349 over the month and is up by 4,243 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Macon ended October with 102,000 jobs. That number is up by 1,000 from September to October and increased by 3,900 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims went up by 21 percent in Macon in October. When compared to last October, claims were down by about 87 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 2,703 active job postings in Macon for October.
