Georgia Power leadership from Metro South and Macon area regional external affairs were pleased to present a $15,000 donation to Gordon State College’s African American Male Initiative (AAMI). The donation will support the school – located in Barnesville (Lamar County) – with their program to increase the number of African American males who complete their postsecondary education. Many students that attend Gordon State College live within a 14-county area between Atlanta and Macon.

“I was so impressed after learning more about the program and spending time with student participants,” said Jeneen Andrews, Lamar County Local Manager for Georgia Power. “I felt it was important for Georgia Power to support the program's sustainability and movement towards equity, not only with funding, but also through employee engagement.”

Three of Georgia Power’s African American male leaders recently attended an AAMI mentoring workshop at Gordon State where they had the opportunity to spend time with student participants. In attendance were Chris McCrary, Legislative Affairs Manager; Jesse Owens, Human Resources Manager; and Christopher Williams, Area Manager-Metro South.
