Georgia DOT Awards Eight Contracts for New Projects in West Central Georgia

The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced it awarded eight contracts for new projects in District 3 (West Central Georgia region). The projects were presented for bid on June 18, 2021 and awards made on July 2, 2021. 

The projects are:

  • Bibb, Crawford, Dooly, Henry, Houston, Lamar, Monroe, Peach and Spalding Counties: the project involves signage upgrades at various locations on I-75/Georgia 401 beginning at Georgia 215 and extending to Bill Gardner Parkway (CS 636). The contract was awarded to ALS of North Carolina of Fayetteville, North Carolina for $18 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of August, 2023.

  • Butts County: the project involves signage and pavement marking upgrades on various county roads. The contract was awarded to Roadside Specialties, LLC of Blackshear for $297,000. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June, 2022.

  • Heard County: the project involves 10.423 miles of resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation of US 27/Georgia 1 beginning south of Georgia 34 and extending to the Carroll County line. The contract was awarded to C. W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc. of Marietta for $7.5 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of May, 2022. 

  • Jones County: the project involves 0.198 miles of construction of a bridge and approaches on Howard Roberts Road (CR 28) over Walnut Creek. The contract was awarded to Gregory Bridge Company of Eatonton for $1.4 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June, 2022.

  • Muscogee County: the project involves 0.492 miles of construction of a bridge and approaches on Georgia 219 (River Road) over Schley Creek. The contract was awarded to C. W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc. of Marietta for $5.14 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of November, 2022.

  • Twiggs County: the project involves 6.355 miles of resurfacing of Georgia 358 beginning east of Georgia 96 and extending to west of US 80/Georgia 19. The contract was awarded to The Scruggs Company of Hahira for $1.6 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of May, 2022. 

  • Meriwether County: the project involves 0.205 miles of construction of a bridge and approaches on Georgia 85 over Lane Street (CS 8117). The contract was awarded to McCoy Grading, Inc. of Greenville for $3.8 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of March, 2023.

  • Spalding County: the project involves 0.142 miles of construction of a bridge and approaches on Vaughn Road (CR 35) over Shoal Creek. The contract was awarded to McCoy Grading, Inc. of Greenville for $1.5 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June, 2022. 

These eight projects were among 49 statewide to be contracted on July 2, 2021. These awards bring the final total dollar amount for construction contracts in Fiscal Year 2021 to approximately $1.84 billion. This total includes TIA, Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2022 began as of July 1, 2021.
