NewTown Macon Hosts The Market

Monday, April 19th, 2021

After a year-long hiatus due to COVID-19, NewTown Macon will re-launch The Market, a monthly makers and farmers market held in downtown Macon on the third Sunday of the month. The Market features local producers, handmade crafts and artisan goods, and handmade food items.

In 2018, NewTown Macon’s Main Street Board Committee won a grant from the Downtown Challenge Fund of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia to host a monthly market to provide vibrant programming on Sundays in the urban core. In the fall of 2019, Main Street Macon launched The Market with great success. Once the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the Main Street board made the difficult decision to cancel The Market in 2020.

“We are thrilled to bring back The Market,” said Emily Hopkins, Main Street Macon Manager and Director of Place at NewTown Macon. “The goal of The Market is to provide family-friendly programming on Sunday and safely drive more foot traffic downtown. We encourage all Market-goers to also visit downtown businesses or make plans for brunch at a downtown restaurant while supporting local vendors.”

The 2021 Market season will kick off this Sunday, April 18 and take place from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Poplar Street between First Street and Second Street. During The Market, Dean Brown and the Dubshak Band will perform. The Market is free and open to the public. Vendor booths will be placed 6 feet apart and vendors are required to wear masks when interacting with the public. The public is highly encouraged to observe social distancing and to wear a mask while enjoying The Market.

Vendors during the April market include Birdhouse Market, Bone Creek Farms, Cardinal Ridge Farm, Celestial Mind and Soul, ChemScentsations All-Natural Body Products, Cindy’s Bits and Pieces, Created by Sola, Creekside Farm, DkDesigns42, Double L Ranch, Emad Apparel, Free Style Art, Good Boy Goodies, Handmade for Hounds, Mandylandfun, Rosa Ray’s Market Fresh, The Puppery, and Tom’s Chainmaille. More vendors are signed up for subsequent market dates.
