Macon-Bibb County Engineering Building to be Dedicated for Robert E. Fountain

The building that houses Macon-Bibb County’s Engineering Department (780 Third Street) is being named for and dedicated to former Bibb County Engineer Robert E. Fountain at a ceremony on Friday, December 18 at 10:30 a.m. Speaking at the event will be Mayor Robert A.B. Reichert, Reverend Creede Hinshaw, District 6 Commissioner Joe Allen, Macon Water Authority Sam Hart, Sr., Roy Fickling, and Robert E. Fountain. Following the speakers there will be a plaque unveiling. 

The event is open to speakers, invited guests, media, and support staff only in order to ensure people can remain socially distanced. It will be broadcast online at www.facebook.com/maconbibbcounty.

Robert E. Fountain was born in Mountain Springs, Georgia and has lived in Macon for the past 55 years. He’s a graduate of Lanier High School for Boys and Georgia Tech, and he became a Registered Land Surveyor in 1971 and a Licensed Professional Engineer in 1973. He came to work for Bibb County in 1973 and was appointed County Engineer in 1974, serving in that capacity for more than 30 years. He was named the 2001 Engineer of the Year in Government by the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers, and he earned the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America in 2000. Fountain is a Veteran of the United States Army, serving as an Airborne Rigger in 1968 and 1969.
