As part of the weeklong celebration for International Credit Union Day, held on Thursday, October 15th, Robins Financial Credit Union staff performed virtual readings of children’s books about money and encouraged children and their families to read along at home. The videos were published on Robins Financial’s Facebook page. After the virtual readings, Robins Financial donated over 360 copies of the books read to 90 local elementary schools to help provide a fun way for kids to learn about spending and saving money.

In addition to the virtual story time, Robins Financial held other virtual contests for members of all ages to safely celebrate International Credit Union Day. Other events included a coloring contest for youth members with 5 winners selected, and a contest for the completion of online financial literacy courses on their free It’s a Money Thing Academy. Over 30 courses were completed during that week. A virtual scavenger hunt was also held on their Facebook page, where members were given an item each day to find in their home and submit a photo. Some of the items to be found for the virtual scavenger hunt included a calculator, dollar sign, and piggy bank or coin jar. Over 375 entries were submitted by more than 150 participants. Prizes ranging from $50-$100 were awarded to 13 members who participated in each of the various International Credit Union Day contests.

International Credit Union Day is a day for credit unions around the world to celebrate their history and show appreciation to their members and communities. The theme for International Credit Union Day this year was “Inspiring Hope for a Global Community.” This year’s global health crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted communities around the world, and credit unions have continued to support our members and communities during this time of economic uncertainty. This year’s International Credit Union Day Theme reflects how credit unions provide hope and contribute to a brighter future by providing financial support and empowerment to people all around the world through financial services and education.

Robins Financial Credit Union is a local non-profit financial cooperative with twenty-two branches in central Georgia. Robins Financial currently provides financial services to over 224,000 members, with assets exceeding $3.0 billion.
