Macon-Bibb, Neighborhood to Celebrate Second Phase of Filmore Thomas Park

Staff Report

Wednesday, October 14th, 2020

For nearly 30 years, a neighborhood waited for a vacant piece of property to become a park for their children and families to enjoy, and in 2016, the first phase of the new Filmore Thomas Park opened to the public. It included a pavilion, playground, splash pad, walking trail, concrete pad for bands, and basketball courts. Now, in 2020, the second phase of the Park - including additional trails, multipurpose field, another pad for bands, and parking access from Hollingsworth Road - is opening to the public.

"We're not done helping revitalize the neighborhoods around Log Cabin Drive and providing them recreational opportunities and ways to stay safe," says District 9 Commissioner & Mayor Pro Tem Al Tillman. "This has been a long time coming, and I'm proud that it's been our consolidated government that has delivered on so many promises made over the years."

Macon-Bibb County and neighborhood leaders will celebrate the completion of Phase II of Filmore Thomas Park (3793 Log Cabin Road) with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 15, at 9:30 a.m., and it will be broadcast live on the Macon-Bibb County Facebook page

Due to restrictions on gatherings because of COVID-19, only invited guests and the media will be allowed to attend. The best place to park will be the new parking lot off of Hollingsworth Road and Hacienda Court since that will be the closest to the event.
