As Georgia citizens adjust to their new reality as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, local businesses are taking a hit. But Georgia credit unions are joining an initiative to fight back for the communities they love.

The Southeastern Credit Union Foundation, the non-profit arm of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU), has invited Georgia credit unions to join the #CreditUnionsCareChallenge. Credit unions that accept the challenge will commit at least $25 per employee to spend at local businesses while also carrying out a good deed in the community.

“To double the impact, the SECUF will match up to $25 per employee to all participating credit unions,” said Tina Williams, chair of the SECUF and CEO of Mobile Educators Credit Union. “Credit unions can choose to donate these matched funds to any charity or organization within their local communities.”

These sorts of programs aren’t new to Georgia credit unions, according to Patrick La Pine, CEO for LSCU.

“Credit unions are integral parts of their local communities,” La Pine said. “We’re excited to see what deeds employees carry out and local businesses they choose to support. This effort lines up perfectly with the credit union motto of People Helping People.”
